EltropyBot is a web crawler operated by Eltropy that indexes credit union member-facing websites to power AI Chat and AI Voice agents. Content gathered by EltropyBot is used to build the knowledge base that these agents draw on when answering member questions, so the crawl is always performed with the explicit authorization of the credit union that owns the site.

What EltropyBot does

Eltropy builds AI-powered chat and voice agents for credit unions. To answer member questions accurately, these agents need up-to-date knowledge of the credit union’s own website content — rates, product pages, FAQs, branch information, and similar member-facing pages. EltropyBot crawls these sites on Eltropy’s behalf to build and refresh that knowledge base (a retrieval-augmented generation, or RAG, pipeline).

EltropyBot does not train general-purpose AI models on crawled content, and it does not crawl sites outside of Eltropy’s own credit union customer base.

Identification

EltropyBot identifies itself honestly in every request it makes, using a stable user-agent string and a published, static IP range.

Website owners can use either the user-agent string or the IP range to verify that a request genuinely came from EltropyBot.

Behavior and site owner controls

EltropyBot is built to respect the preferences a site owner sets, and does not attempt to evade them:

• robots.txt — EltropyBot reads and follows the robots.txt file on every site it crawls, including Disallow rules and any Crawl-delay directive.
• Crawl rate — Request rate is kept reasonable and paced according to the site’s own crawl-delay setting where one is specified.
• Scope — EltropyBot only crawls sites belonging to Eltropy’s credit union customers, and only after that customer has authorized the crawl.

Controlling EltropyBot with robots.txt

To allow EltropyBot to crawl your site:
